Hi, I'm Sam, and I suffer from PCOS (Polycistic Ovarian Syndrome) which is very painful physical and emotionally.
PCOS affects my menstrual cycle, ovulation, blood sugar (in my case, causing me to be diagnosed with type II diabetes at only 21), and even fertility issues and a previous miscarriage.
I rely heavily on a form of birth control to manage my symptoms.
I have never needed to utilize birth control as a form of contraceptive, I've actually never even thought of it as "birth control" but rather as something I need, consistently, to get by. Just another medication.
In October 2013 I lost my health insurance due to my divorce and was forced to pay over $150 EVERY month for my birth control prescription alone.
I'm thoroughly upset and confused why men- who know nothing about being a woman, having PCOS or a vagina in general, carrying a child, or ingesting, inserting, or injecting a form of birth control are allowed to feel entitled to make decisions about my body- that I know better than anyone or anything else in the world.
I don't claim to know an immense amount about male anatomy. I wouldn't consider myself competent enough to be aloud to make medical decisions for a man. I don't know what it's like to be hit in the groin. I don't know what it's like to have to take Viagra, or to have a vasectomy. Whether for health reasons, or personal reasons I have no objection to men making their own decisions about their own bodies- and I don't think any one will ever have to argue that in court.
I don't care what anyone chooses to do with their God given body. It's is theirs. They know what it needs, what doesn't work for it, when something is feeling right, and when something is just feeling wrong.
Everyone deserves that.
