Hi, I'm Sam...

Hi, I'm Sam, and I suffer from PCOS (Polycistic Ovarian Syndrome) which is very painful physical and emotionally.
PCOS affects my menstrual cycle, ovulation, blood sugar (in my case, causing me to be diagnosed with type II diabetes at only 21), and even fertility issues and a previous miscarriage.
I rely heavily on a form of birth control to manage my symptoms.

I have never needed to utilize birth control as a form of contraceptive, I've actually never even thought of it as "birth control" but rather as something I need, consistently, to get by. Just another medication.

In October 2013 I lost my health insurance due to my divorce and was forced to pay over $150 EVERY month for my birth control prescription alone.

I'm thoroughly upset and confused why men- who know nothing about being a woman, having PCOS or a vagina in general, carrying a child, or ingesting, inserting, or injecting a form of birth control are allowed to feel entitled to make decisions about my body- that I know better than anyone or anything else in the world.

I don't claim to know an immense amount about male anatomy. I wouldn't consider myself competent enough to be aloud to make medical decisions for a man. I don't know what it's like to be hit in the groin. I don't know what it's like to have to take Viagra, or to have a vasectomy. Whether for health reasons, or personal reasons I have no objection to men making their own decisions about their own bodies- and I don't think any one will ever have to argue that in court.

I don't care what anyone chooses to do with their God given body. It's is theirs. They know what it needs, what doesn't work for it, when something is feeling right, and when something is just feeling wrong.
Everyone deserves that.

Keep Calm and Apologize Amazon.

March 2013.
Amazon is briefly carrying these shirts featuring the ever popular "Keep Calm" meme-with a twist.
Also available: "Keep Calm and Choke Her", "Keep Calm and Grope On" and "Keep Calm and Rape Me"
Really??

These shirts originated from an Australian third-party retailer Solid Gold Bomb, which has partnered with Amazon in the past. The owner of Solid Gold Bomb says that while he understands the "gravity of the offense" the shirts were an honest mistake. Apparently, the shirts were made when a computer program randomly paired nouns and verbs with the "Keep Calm" meme and the company did not deliberately create the shirts.
Really??

Now that's a cop out if I've ever heard one.
But alas, karma has prevailed.
Solid Gold Bomb is just that...a bomb.
All of their social media sites are now down, and the CEO says the entire venture is "dead in the water" because of this snafu. OOPS.

Let's just face it. Not only is this not a computer generated mistake, but a horrible offense.
Doesn't matter who is to blame-time to step up to the plate and apologize Amazon.
Don't be a contributor or a supporter of violence against women.

Le Year in Review

The year is over. We laughed. We cried. We (almost) all survived.
This is what was awesome and what sucked this year.
LET'S GET IT POPPIN!

Best Song (probably of all time)
Can't Hold Us - Macklemore & Ryan Lewis.
I DON'T CARE where I am, what I'm doing, who I am with this song comes on and I am moving.
I know EVERY SINGLE WORD and I have to admit I'm not too shabby.
This song will never get old...ever.
"Raise those hands, this is our party. We came here to live life like nobody was watching. I got my city right behind me, if I fall, they got me. Learn from that failure, gain humility and then we keep marching ourselves."

Worst Song-
Suck my Dick - Bam Margera
View Discretion Advised.
SMDH. SMDH. SMDHSHIFO. (shake my damn head so hard it falls off.)

Best Year:
Jennifer Lawrence
X-Men, Hunger Games, Silver Linings Playbook, American Hustle.
She's 23. She's from KY. She's hilarious. She's gorgeous.
You go Glenn CoCo

Worst Year:
Amanda Bynes
DUI, 2 Hit and Runs, Possession, Reckless Endangerment, Rehab, Her awful hair,
and her relentless use of the word "ugly"
2013 is to Amanda Bynes as 2007 was to Britney Spears.

Best & Worst Celebrity Baby Names

BEST:
North West - Now I don't particulary care for the name North when you have a last name like West, but if you have a normal last name I see no problem. And I LOVE the nickname Nori. Thumbs up Kimye.

Everly Tatum - Channing & Jenna Dewan Tatum

George Alexander Louis - While I was hoping for something a little more modern (at least for the first name) I like the tradition here.

Ruby Lane Powell - Chris & Heidi Powell. Adding this to my baby name list as we speak. LOVE.

WORST:
Apparently this year was bad for the boys. These need no explaination or commentation.

Axl Jack Duhamel - Fergie & Josh Duhamel
Ace Knute Johnson - Jessica Simpson & Eric Johnson
Rainbow Aurora Rotella - Holly Madison & Pasquale Rotella
Bear Winslet- Kate Winslet & Ned Rockenroll

Best and Worst Things to Happen in 2013:

BEST:
  • Amazeballs was added to the dictionary
  • Michelle Obama got bangs!
  • The Supreme Court ruled the federal ban on same-sex marriage to be unconstitutional
  • Vines became popular
  • Pope Francis
  • Plan B is approved for over the counter consumption

WORST:
  • Kirk Cameron made another movie
  • Government shutdown
  • Breaking Bad ends
And a bajillion other horrible/sad/ignorant/outrageous things happened but we want to start the new year on a positive note :)

Last but CERTAINLY not least:
PERSON OF THE YEAR:

Matt McGlone

Nothing would be completely "Sam" without me going off on some insanely sappy yet still remarkably romantic tangent about the love of my life.
(so buckle up)
2013 was great for us. We met, we fell in love, we got engaged.
I couldn't have made it out of this year without this man by my side.
The most loving, caring, compassionate person I've ever met.
He let's me be me....and he actually likes it!
He likes that I'm weird, silly, slightly obnoxious, overly anxious, constantly worried, and easily aggetated after slumber. He looks at me and I just know. Every failed relationship has lead me to realize that he's my soul mate. And without him even saying a word - I know he feels the same.
I love you more than I could ever say - here is to many more happy years together.

Existentialism In The Snow

A Rex Original:

And at that moment he looked at her and knew- there will never be anyone but you.

The silver clouds parted and the moon leant down- illuminating the darkness all around.
The snowfall is silent-glides gently to the ground. The emotions were crippling her all around.

Her eyes sparkled like diamonds and she gave him that look. It wasn't much- but that's all it took.
She started to shiver- her skin was so white. It wouldn't be easy but they'd be worth every fight.

They didn't know why, and they didn't know how but they felt like they'd make it- some way, some how.

The night seemed endless- the hours melted away- he looked down and whispered "you'll be my wife one day"
She inhaled the cold and exhaled her doubt. The ice on her heart had started to melt.

All of her fears came to light- if she wanted to win this she had to fight.
She could be happy, if she would try- she knew that the moment she looked into his eyes.

He doesn't see her as lost, broken or bruised. With him, she'd never be lonely, hurt or used.

The dawn began to break- the world would soon wake. She looked up towards the sky and knew she made her own fate.

I don't have the answers, just the hope.

This has been the worst year of my life. I've lost everything I've ever known and my life will never be the same. I feel helpless, worthless, useless and worst of all- weak.

Everyone tells you you're strong. They don't know how you do it and you're amazing- but you're not. You're just going through the motions and trying to keep your head above water.

I have unanswered questions, unresolved issues and emotions I can't even admit
I am a closed book and sometimes I feel alone because I've isolated myself to rely on me, myself and I.

This year has been the worst year of my life. I've lost everything. But slowly, little by little and day by day I start to see the sun. I have been blessed with my beautiful son, supportive family and friends and an amazing man to share my life with. All the things I always imagined my life to be I can now achieve.

This has been the worst year of my life but it's almost over. I'll survive, move on, and in time I'll be grateful. One day I'll look back at this year and think "that year was worth all the amazing years I've had since then."

Fab Five

Looking for something new? Here are my favorite (non-obvious, aka Facebook) FREE apps.

 Duolingo
Free and easy language learning site. They offer instruction in German, Spanish, Italian, French and Portuguese. It's very user friendly and you can learn more than one language at a time. Best part about this app is the approach. They use a combination of techniques including pictures, sentence structure and even voice recognition to practice your pronunciation.

Google Translate

Can you see why I love this app? There are endless hilarious things you can make it say! Oh, and I guess it does have some real world applications as well. You can also type something in English, translate it to the language you're looking for and it will read that language out loud. You can even record someone speaking that language and it will translate it to English. Great for travel :)

Candy Crush
Everyone is familiar with Candy Crush on Facebook but now you can take it on the go! I know I said it's free...but once you're stuck on a level for more than one round of lives I know you're going to be buying more :)

Polyvore
Ever see those outfits all over Pinterest and wonder how you can make your own? POLYVORE. I prefer to use the online version just because you have more options but this app is amazing and a great way to pass time.

Snapchat
So fun! I love the set up with the small caption and the time limit on the pictures. One warning: If you plan on sending anything you wouldn't want someone to see for more than 10 seconds: BE CAUTIOUS because if you have an iPhone the user you send to can take a screen shot of your snap.
